Renting Disney Vacation Club: Pros and cons of DVC Rentals

Renting Disney Vacation Club
Orlando, Fl. USA- January 30, 2017: The IllumiNations Reflections Of Earth Laser and Fireworks show at Epcot Center in Walt Disney World.

Membership at the Disney Vacation Club (DVC) gives you a host of privileges that will ensure a seamless and amazing vacation for you and your family. However, if you want to go on a Disney vacation but you’re not prepared to invest in a DVC membership yet, renting DVC points is a great option to consider.

You can rent DVC points directly from an owner or through a broker. If your requested dates and resort are available, they will book the reservations for you.

DVC points rental offers plenty of benefits and advantages, but it also comes with some pitfalls. Here’s a list of the pros and cons:

Pros of renting DVC points:

  1. You get substantial savings. There’s a big difference in the cost of renting directly with Disney or with a broker. In some cases, the difference can be thousands dollars, which you can spend instead on park passes or meals.
  2. DVC rooms are some of the nicest on property. They are found in the Deluxe Disney resorts, such as:
    • Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas
    • Disney’s Beach Club Villas
    • Disney’s Boardwalk Villas
    • Disney’s Bay Lake Tower Resort
    • Disney’s Wilderness Lodge
    • Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort
    • Disney’s Bay Lake Tower Resort
    • Disney’s Old Key West Resort
    • Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort
    • Disney’s Polynesian Resort
    • Disney’s Aulani Resort (Hawaii)
    • Disney’s Hilton Head (South Carolina)
    • Disney Grand California (California)
  3. You get to “test the waters.” If you’ve been thinking of buying DVC points, renting will give you an idea of what you can expect as a member and help you decide if it would be a good investment for you.
  4. Your reservation is linked to “My Disney Experience.” This gives you access to several privileges, such as FastPass, which allows you to book rides in advance, as well as advanced dining reservations and online check-in selections.
  5. You lock in discounts. Disney regularly offers discounts throughout the year, but at variable dates and terms. Unless you keep a really close watch, it’s easy to miss out on these discounts. When you rent points, your rates will be discounted beyond Disney’s discounted rates.

Cons of renting DVC points:

  1. There’s no guarantee you’ll get your preferred reservation. DVC point rentals are in high demand and sell out fast. You may need to be flexible with your preferences, or stay in several resorts within your preferred vacation period, depending on what’s available.
  2. Expect limited housekeeping services. In DCV resorts, housekeeping services are typically provided every three days and not every day as in regular hotels.
  3. You don’t have complete control over your reservation. If you want to change rooms, dates, the size of your group or other details, you need to inform the broker, who will check if the changes can be accommodated. You cannot make any changes on your own.
  4. You have to pay more upfront. Typically, point rentals are paid in full upon the confirmation of your booking. Payments are often not refundable.
