In the competitive spirit of college basketball, our team arranged a tournament of 16 Disney Vacation Club Resorts to compete against each other to see which DVC Resort would be crowned #1! would advance and ultimately be voted the top DVC resort. With weeks of voting behind us and a total of 3,731 votes, we have a winner!. This epic battle of 16 DVC Resorts lead to one winner…. and the winner is:
Disney’s Polynesian Resort & Bungalows!
Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort (and later Villas & Bungalows) has been a favorite for Disney Vacation Club Members and Resort Guests alike for over 50 years. Below are just some of the reasons why this original property built in 1971 (which later became a DVC Resort in 2016) came out as the clear winner, even squashing Beach Club Villas in our bracket championship.
Incredible Theming: The Resort immerses guests in a tropical Polynesian paradise, with lush landscaping, tiki torches, themed pools, beautiful beaches, bungalows over the water, and South Pacific music playing throughout the resort. The immersive theme transports every guest into a vacation experience as if you were whisked away to the Polynesian islands of the South Pacific.
Location: Location, Location, Location Situated on the shores of Seven Seas Lagoon, the Resort offers stunning views of Magic Kingdom and Cinderella’s Castle with easy access to the monorail, Ticket & Transportation Center, boat taxis, and buses providing convenient transportation to all Disney theme parks, resorts, and attractions.
Dining Options: Guests can enjoy a variety of dining options, including ‘Ohana, a popular family-style restaurant known for its delicious unlimited Polynesian-inspired dishes, the Tambu Lounge for tropical drinks and appetizers, and Kona Cafe, which offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Quick service options like Captain Cook’s with classic South Seas-inspired dishes or Kona Island for coffee and pastries. A crowd favorite is Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto and Terrace, a totally immersive watering hole (bar) filled with an enchanting collection of unique drinks. Pro tip, if there is a wait to get in – it’s worth it.
Amenities: This Resort is home to the Lava Pool, which features a waterslide through a volcano, zero-entry access, and a large children’s splash pad with slides and water cannons. The Oasis Pool offers a more relaxed environment for Members and Guests to lounge in the sun. with zero entry and a lovely pool bar called the Oasis Bar & Grill. The Resort has a white sandy beach that stretches along the Seven Seas Lagoon and offers a beach volleyball court, a fire pit for evening stories and s’mores, or toasted marshmallows with great views of the Magic Kingdom and Happily Ever After fireworks. There is a jogging trail, fishing excursions, and two great golf courses across the street (the Palm and the Magnolia).
Cultural Activities: The resort often features cultural activities such as hula dancing lessons, ukulele lessons, campfire activities and storytelling sessions, as well as nightly Disney movies under the stars.
Future Expansion: Due to the high demand for this resort, Disney is expanding the magic of the Polynesian Resort and is adding a Disney Vacation Club tower to the property. The expansion will open in late 2024 and will offer more resort amenities, room size options, pools, restaurants, retail, and resort experiences. Look for more details on this expansion as time goes on, but the new tower will offer some fantastic views of the Seven Sea Lagoon and the Magic Kingdom and the much-needed one-, two-, and three-bedroom villas the resort has been missing.
