How to choose the right broker when buying or selling your DVC package
In previous blog posts, we’ve established that working with a licensed and reputable broker can help you in buying or selling DVC shares. Today, we’ll give you tips on how you can find the right broker to aid you with your DVC endeavor.
Ask close friends and family for referrals
Do you have friends or relatives who have recently purchased DVC shares? If so, one of the best ways to meet the right broker is to ask your close friends and family for any referrals. If they did a good job with the people you trust, then you’re more inclined to also believe they’ll take care of you throughout the whole buying or selling process.
That said, It’s important to vet a broker on your own, no matter how superb his or her previous work with other clients. Further down this blog post are questions you can ask.
Look for brokers online
Compared to asking people you know for referrals, scouring the web for brokers seems quite shady. The internet, however, is a rich resource where you might find the perfect broker that will meet your needs.
Start with reputable DVC resales companies and brokerages, which often have secured websites stocked well with other helpful resources. This may or may not include information about their team and individual brokers.
If you’re unsure the company is trustworthy, open a new tab on your preferred web browser and check if the company is accredited with the Better Business Bureau. A few clicks online will also eventually lead you to reviews. Reputable and trusted DVC brokers often share feedback from past clients as this showcases their experience in the business.
Ask questions
Say you’ve found one or two brokers you’d like to work with, but are unsure with who to choose. Conduct interviews separately and don’t hesitate to ask questions, from their work history, how they got started in the industry, and even their most recent closed sale.
Hiring a broker also requires you to pay for their services. Ask about the fees they charge, what these fees cover, and other related queries. Another question you should definitely ask is their work style. Are they working 24/7 or do they have weekends off? Will you be able to call them whenever? Are they juggling multiple clients, or will they be focused on you for the mean time? If you think their work style doesn’t fit you, then focus your attention somewhere else.
Working with a broker requires trust, and if he or she can’t give you the full disclosure about the services he or she provides, it may be best to move on to the next candidate.
How is the chemistry?
Chemistry isn’t just reserved for romantic relationships. You need it for business as well. If you don’t get along with a broker, chances are the whole buying or selling process will be quite stressful or even difficult for you.
Choose a broker you jive it, who truly understands you and your family’s needs and takes it to heart.
