Buying DVC Points: Direct vs. Resale
Member Extras included when you buy directly from Disney
In the past, points bought through resale could afford purchasers the same benefits as if they had purchased them directly through Disney; however, this is no longer the case. If you want to get Member Extras you must purchase them directly from Disney.
These extras include the following: Disney Cruise Lines, Adventures by Disney, and the Concierge Collection, access to exclusive member-only events (if available), 2 DVC Member lounges, and certain discounts on dining and merchandise. Not all restaurants or merchants participate.
Resale Savings may be worth losing out on member extras
As a DVC buyer, you have to decide if the benefits provided by Disney direct matter more than the money you will save purchasing Resale. If you don’t see the value, or the point rates seem too high for the Disney Cruise Line, Concierge Collection, or Adventures by Disney than a resale package may be your best option. If you don’t see yourself attending the members events (limited availability), the economic benefits of purchasing resale are something to strongly consider. The resale packages can be half the price of buying direct from Disney.
When deciding whether to buy direct through Disney or Resale, it really comes down to what your priorities are. So, consider the factors carefully when buying a DVC contract. If you are a huge fan of the member extras, then purchasing a smaller size contract (minimum 75 points) directly through Disney will get you those perks. You can then add additional points via resale and have the best of both worlds. However, if you do not care about the member extras, we say purchase Resale and save yourself thousands on your purchase. Also be aware, the Membership Extras can be changed or canceled anytime by Disney. There is no guarantee these perks will always be offered by Disney.
