How does your “Use Year” relate to booking reservations?
If you’re considering a purchase with the Disney Vacation Club, you will be encountering a term called the “Use Year.”
It’s important to understand the finer points of your “Use Year”.
Here’s what you need to know:
What is a “Use Year”?
When deciding to purchase a Disney Vacation Club contract, you have to pick your home resort, the number of points per year, and your “Use Year”(or the month your points reallocate each year). The use year consists of 8 out the 12 months of the year (February, March, April, June, August, September, October, and December). The month that you pick is called your Use Year and is when your points go into your DVC account each year.
When your Use Year rolls around annually, you will be given a certain number of points that you can use at a Disney Vacation Club resort or through the RCI World Passport Collection. This Use Year also indicates when your points must be banked, or used before they expire.
For example, if you buy a contract with the month of September, you will receive your corresponding number of points on the first day of every September. Your Use Year also tells you when your banking deadline is, which is 8 months after your Use Year begins. So with a September Use year, the banking deadline is April 30 (8 months later). You can bank up to 100% of your points into the next year within that first 8 months of when your points are go into your account.
Your “Use Year” and booking reservations
When booking a reservation at a Disney Vacation Club resort, you are not obligated to book it on the month of your Use Year. This is a common cause of confusion…where members think that their Use Years are needed when making a reservation at a Disney Vacation Club resort.
Your Use Year only serves as a guide in keeping track of the points deducted from your account when you make a reservation. Keep in mind that you may lose points if you cancel a reservation and not reschedule, or forget to bank the points before the banking deadline. This is why it’s important to choose a Use Year (month) and know the banking deadlines.
How to book your next stay at a Disney Vacation Club resort
Members who want to book a Disney vacation in their home resort can do so 11 months in advance from their check in date (regardless of use year). For reservations in a non-home Disney Vacation Club resort, you can book as early as 7 months before the planned vacation check in day.
Bookings are done on a first-come-first-served basis.
