Buying
Disney Vacation Club’s flexible vacation ownership program puts some of the finest Disney Resort accommodations at your fingertips. Here’s what you need to know about buying a timeshare from DVC.
Why buy a timeshare through The Timeshare Store, Inc.?
Depending on the Disney Resort of your choice, buying resale through our company allows you to save anywhere from $20 to $80 per point compared to buying directly from DVC.
It also gives you more options – purchasing membership from DVC lets you choose from one to three resorts since most of their timeshare developments have been sold out.
Buying through the resale market, however, gives you access to inventory from all 14 locations:
- Animal Kingdom Villas
- Aulani Resort in Hawaii
- Beach Club Villas
- Bay Lake Tower
- Boardwalk Villas
- The Villas at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel® and Spa
- Grand Floridian Villas
- Hilton Head Island
- Old Key West
- Saratoga Springs
- Vero Beach Resort
- Villas at Wilderness Lodge Boulder Ridge
- Villas at Wilderness Lodge Copper Creek
- Polynesian Villas
How many DVC points should I purchase?
This depends largely on your vacation habits – how often you go, how long you plan to stay, and what type of accommodation you need. Using the DVC point calculator will help you determine how many points you’ll need for your planned Disney vacations.
Your points can be used at any of the 14 DVC resorts and if you need help determining how many points will work best for your families needs, please be in touch with one of our experienced DVC experts who can assist you with figuring this out.
Can I rent DVC points before purchasing?
The Timeshare Store, Inc. works with members who would like to rent out their points to potential clients who want to try out the timeshare program before making a purchase. Or just want to rent and save money compared to Disney’s prices. Vacation points can be rented at $14 per point. If you’d like to learn more about renting VS. buying DVC points, click here.
Can I use my DVC points at non-Disney resorts?
Yes, as a DVC Member you can use your DVC points at over 2,000 resorts around the world through the RCI World Passport Collection. Simply contact Member Services or log into the Member website and you can view availability or book your vacation points through the Buena Vista Trading Company or the RCI® Exchange Network. This gives you access to vacation destinations outside of Disney’s 14 DVC locations.
What exactly is the “use year”?
The “use year” refers to the month of the year when you receive your points. The use year is used for banking purposes, so each Member knows when to either bank or book their remaining vacation points.
As a rule, you can make a booking in your home resort 11 months in advance, and up to 7 months in advance in other DVC locations. If you want to go on a Disney vacation before the beginning of your use year, you are allowed to borrow points as well.
How long does closing take?
It takes about six to eight weeks to close once contracts are drawn up.
After receiving the signed agreements from buyer and seller, we send the documents to Disney for Right of First Refusal (ROFR). They have 30 days to go over the agreement and determine whether or not to exercise ROFR.
ROFR allows DVC to purchase a resale package after the sales price has been set and a contract drawn up. If the sales price is too low, DVC can intervene and buy the property themselves, in compliance with the terms that the seller and original buyer agreed on. In other words, DVC will become the buyer. Disney typically makes that call within three to four weeks.
If approved, DVC sends the documents to the title company who will finalize the closing documents. After the final documents have been executed and returned, the contract closes and DVC is informed of the transfer of title. It usually takes about 10 business days for Disney to recognize the new owner in their system once the closing has been completed.
